Using Silver Dollars On Casino Slots

Since 1965 silver dollars have been used in slot machines in Nevada. Beginning the previous year silver dollars began being sold at premium value. This meant that Nevada casinos began to run into issues regarding this currency. The problem was that at that time most of the casinos in Nevada had heavily invested in silver dollars. However, the casinos were not able to keep the money for more than a short period of time. Every time they put the silver dollars in their machines gamblers were winning them at a rapid rate.
This led to the passing of a regulation stating that Nevada casinos could use their own private dollars as currency for their players. August of 1965 saw another change in regulations that set firm rules regarding the use of the currency. The previous month, the U.S. Mint had begun to produce metal tokens to be used by Harrah’s Casino. These tokens each had a specific pattern of reading for the value of the individual coin. This was done in order to discourage people from trying to counterfeit them.

These dollar gaming tokens were used by the Nevada casinos. In addition 2,500 sets of tokens were minted specifically for casino stockholders. The U.S. Mint also created 500 sets of silver dollars the casinos could use for the purpose of presentations. Individual sets of silver dollars came in coin albums, each of which had its own serial number.

Between 1965 and 1969 casino tokens were produced by Product Engineering, Wendell’s Osborne Coinage, and Michigan Tool & Engineering. During these years silver dollars were created to be used in place of the traditional casino tokens. After this four-year period, it was another 10 years before any more dollar tokens were minted for the casinos. The dollar coins referred to as Ike that were produced from ’65 to 69’ stopped production in 1979. At that point, virtually every casino that had been letting gamblers use dollar tokens on their dollar slot machine games made it a point to issue new tokens with a one-dollar value to them.

Ever since then dollar slot machines have become very popular in casinos all over the world. These machines boast universally loved themes such as Wheel of Fortune. In fact, this game is the most popular dollar slot machine game of all time. Other well-known dollar slots found in many casinos include games such as Major Millions, Cash Splash, and Fruitmania. Of those three games, the most popular one among them is Major Millions even though the game is only available at online casinos as opposed to offline casinos.

One of the reasons dollar slot machines have stood the test of time is that they are often won by everyday players as opposed to high rollers. Most people who play slot machines feel that the dollar machines are a great bet. This is likely to ensure that dollar slots continue to grow in popularity among gamblers.
